Webinar: 2020-02-11 - Postural Control as a Base of Support for Upper Extremity
Postural Control as a Base of Support for Upper Extremity Participation presented by Celine Rosati Skertich and Linda Merry
February 11, 2020 - 7:00PM - 8:00PM EDT
Webinar description
Postural control provides the "background" necessary for participation in everyday tasks. It holds us up against gravity, provides a basis for all movement, stabilizes forces that result from movement and gives balance for distal muscles groups to work. Consideration of biomechanics, alignment and muscle function is important to an individual’s postural control. Upon completion of this lecture, participants will be able to apply concepts to support the child’s ability to maintain upright, sustain sitting and optimize upper extremity movement and function. Therapeutic principles that guide treatment activities will be discussed. Adaptive positioning and equipment that support an individual’s participation will be presented.
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the impact postural control has on an individual’s participation in everyday tasks.; 2. Examine the concepts inherent of postural control: base of support, biomechanics and alignment and understand how they impact upper extremity movement. ; 3. Integrate these positioning principles and adaptive strategies to optimize an individual’s participation in everyday activities.
