Webinar description
Course Objectives:
1. The therapist will be able to identify the developmental progression of students when they are learning to use a pair of scissors;
2. The therapist will recognize which “modified/adapted” scissors are most suitable for students based upon their individual and unique needs;
3. The therapist shall be able to list the six general guidelines as prerequisites for students to learn cutting;
4. Upon completion of the course, you will gain a better understanding of all fine motor skills required to successfully operate a pair of scissors. We also review all scissors available to you as a clinician and how to approach teaching left-handed students cutting/scissor skills.
About the presenter
Kelly Wilk-Downs, OTR/L received a degree in Exercise Science from Florida State University and her Occupational Therapy Degree from Barry University, in Miami Beach, Florida. Attending a private Catholic College and learning from nuns was a calming experience. She is Certified in the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test and has specialized in working with Autism. Kelly is the developer of Shoe Tying Made Simple and Writing Made Simple products. She has spent most of her career working in the schools where she was responsible for staffing the schools with clinicians and she also owned her own clinic.
