The authors have written a wonderful book for parents, teachers and teachers that simplifies a complicated topic. They explain and provide many helpful activities for children with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
The Chapters include:
Chapter 1: The Eight Sensory Systems, Sensory Processing, and SPD
Chapter 2. Revealing "A SECRET" to Intervention This is a framework developed by Dr. Lucy Miller. The acronym "A SECRET" is designed to demystify what an occupational therapist takes into account when assessing a child's behaviors and strategizing about the next steps to meet his or her specific needs. Once understood, the elements of "A SECRET" give families, teachers, and therapists a framework from which to develop a plan of intervention. The authors give a step-by-step approach on how to use this approach and discuss it thoroughly in the following chapters.
Chapter 3: Emotional Regulation The remainder of the chapters clearly discuss symptoms and behaviors of each of the Subtypes of Sensory Processing Disorders, along with the Principles of Intervention for that subtype, Case Studies and Problem-Solving using the A SECRET framework.
