Making Sensory Connections Through a “Mock” Sense-Ability Group Geared towards Adolescents and School Age Children
VIDEO CLIPS (This Video Playlist will play all clips from the seminar)
Overview: Experience for yourself the fun and “magic” of the Sense-ability Group, which has been at the heart of the Sensory Connection Program. This group is carefully orchestrated to provide successful experiences for everyone while they learn to use sensory input for comfort and self-regulation. This group will be purposefully geared towards adolescents but ideas and activities can be easily applied across the age spectrum from pre-school to geriatrics and it can be especially helpful for children with special needs to help with body awareness and to promote socialization. Even if your setting does not include groups you will learn how strategies can be used for individual treatment as well.
Learning objectives: Participants will:
take home new ideas to expand options for sensory based-group and individual treatment that will help students tune into their bodies and learn self-regulation strategies;
be able to describe how a developmental sequence, careful timing, and engaging sensory activities contribute to feelings of success and good socialization skills;
be able to identify methods to promote learning through games and interactive activities;
and be able to describe how the cognitive level of group members drive activity choices from pre-school to adults.
