Do you work with children who have difficulty sitting still, attending to directions, initiating tasks, or working through tasks until completion? Then you will want to learn about the different components of self-regulation and executive function skills. You will learn about methods to organize their environment and to modify instruction. In addition, you will be introduced to activities, technology and apps, to improve a child’s self-regulation and executive function skills in order to be successful at school and at home.
Jocelynn B. Wallach, MS, OTR/L has been working as a pediatric occupational therapist for over 40 years. For the past 22 years she has worked full time in the Westwood, MA Public Schools and has managed her own private practice "Capable Hands and Associates". Previously, she worked in early intervention centers. She developed the pediatric occupational therapy departments for the Brockton Visiting Nurses Association, Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, and the New England Sinai Hospital. She has been an associate professor at Boston University, teaching occupational and physical therapists about school-based practice. For over 10 years she was an adjunct professor for The Education Cooperative and Westwood Public Schools, affiliated with Framingham and Worcester State Colleges in Massachusetts, and taught "Sensory Diet in the Classroom". She has lectured nation-wide on topics including "Self-Regulation and Executive Function Skills to Support Student Success". Also she has presented training seminars and professional development courses for parents, instructional aides, teachers and therapists in a variety of other venues including the "Therapies in the School Annual Conference", Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Conference, Northeast Regional Conference on Autism, Leap into Early Childhood Conference, Hopkinton Public Schools and Westwood Public Schools. She is a member of NBCOT and AOTA.
