An overview of how vision develops in young children and how vision affects all learning and behavior.
Learning Objectives:
1) To review the difference between what you see (visual acuity) and what you do with what you see (visual processing).
2) To recognize how difficulties in accurately processing the visual world can lead to lifelong challenges.
3) To understand how active, outdoor, three-dimensional play offsets the deleterious effect of our children’s increasing screen time.
About the presenter
Joye Newman received her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from George Washington University. Integrating studies in behavioral optometry, occupational therapy, and psychology into her graduate work, Joye developed her unique method of perceptual-motor therapy. Joye has worked with renowned author Carol Kranowitz to develop the In-Sync Child method and to co-author several multi-award winning publications: Growing an In-Sync Child; its sequel, In-Sync Activity Cards; and an activities calendar, A Year of Mini-Moves for the In-Sync Child. Joye is also the author of Move to Learn: Integrating Movement into the Early Childhood Curriculum.
