Webinar description
Working with children who have visual impairments (VI) requires creativity and problem-solving around the simplest of daily tasks. This presentation will provide OT practitioners with general information about the implications of VI among school-aged children and the unique role OTs play in helping these students succeed in school. Content will include vision-based accommodations, and ways to incorporate these strategies when working with students with VI in any school-based setting.
Course Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to
1. Understand barriers to participation in education and school-based occupational therapy intervention for students with various visual impairments (cortical/cerebral and ocular).
2. Articulate how visual impairments impact the therapeutic process of evaluation and intervention, and how to apply learned intervention strategies in practice.
