Many occupational therapists are looking for ways to be globally connected and be a leader. In this 90-minute presentation, leadership opportunities here and abroad within the field of occupational therapy will be explored. Mentorship will also be discussed, along with current opportunities and ways mentors and mentees can be successful. Key components to management strategies will also be covered, such as how to improve employee retention and job satisfaction.
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand importance of mentorship and leadership within our field; 2. Identify leadership opportunities within current work environment; 3. Identify key components to employee retention and job satisfaction.
About the presenter
Kate Barlow, OTD, MS, OTR/L is the CDC’s Learn the Signs. Act Early. Ambassador for the state of Massachusetts. She is an Assistant Professor at American International College. Dr. Barlow received her BS in Occupational Therapy from Boston University, and her MS and OTD from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has over 20 years of clinical experience that includes public school practice, early intervention, working in a pediatric hospital-based outpatient clinic and management. Due to her personal passion for global outreach, Dr. Barlow founded the International Interprofessional Mentorship Program, which currently provides mentorship to therapists in over 15 countries. She also started an open educational resource (OER) page for occupational therapists to share resources and knowledge.
