Teacher Collaboration and Coaching: Successful Partnerships to Implement Tier 1 Fine and Visual Motor Supports Into Classrooms presented by Moira P. Bushell OTD, MEd, OTR/L October 27, 2020 - 7:00PM - 8:30PM EDT
Early childhood and kindergarten teachers continue to express increased concern about the decrease in fine and visual motor skills for their students'. With research supporting contextual services and implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), collaboration between teachers and occupational therapists to provide embedded fine and visual motor instruction is becoming more popular. This collaboration has positive outcomes for teachers and students when linking these activities to academic standards and ESSA themes. Tier 1 intervention successes and challenges will be discussed and practical strategies provided about how to develop these relationships within their school building.
Learning Objectives: 1. Identify resources and strategies for promoting a collaborative relationship between teachers and occupational therapists to embed fine motor and visual motor development into academic curricula; 2. Understand and reflect on the importance of contextual services and collaboration and how it supports children's fine and visual motor skill development within the school setting.
