School-Based OT Services in a Trauma Informed Model
Overview: Trauma impacts the lives of approximately one in 35 children every year. These children, and all the adults who live and work with them, are impacted by the traumas the children have experienced. Complex trauma, in particular, affects every aspect of function and children with trauma histories can encounter significant difficulty in social and school settings. This presentation will explore complex trauma and its effects on children. The concept of trauma informed care, with particular emphasis on trauma informed care in schools, will also be discussed, including self-care for all those living and working with children who have experienced complex trauma.

Identify characteristics of complex trauma in children;
Demonstrate understanding of trauma informed care (TIC) as universal principle;
Demonstrate understanding of TIC related to participation, occupation, regulation, and skill;
Demonstrate understanding of secondary trauma and self-care.
