Measuring Outcomes That Families Consider Important
Therapro carries a broad range of assessments you can examine in the 2016-2017 Assessments Catalog. The "Handy Evaluation Chart" which is included in the catalog and online is a handy tool when you're trying to decide which assessment is appropriate for your client. Your feedback has told us that the chart is practical, functional, and attractive. In this color-coded index you'll find the assessment title along with the ages for which it is designed, and where to find it in the catalog for a more detailed description.

AOTA's OT Practice publication recently (September, 2016) issued an article entitled Demonstrating the Value of Sensory Integration Approaches by Addressing and Measuring Outcomes that Matter to Families, by Ellen S. Cohn and Jessica A. DeMarinis. The authors advocate a collaborative approach to treatment between therapist and family because it leads to informed care, and respect for the family's goals and choices. When therapists take into consideration the family's concerns and openly discuss the family's goals for their child, meaningful interventions can be designed.

The objective of the article is to review studies that examine parent perspectives about desired treatment outcomes for their children who have been identified as having Sensory Integration issues, and then comparing the outcomes that are identified as important to parents, with studies that looked at outcomes of SI and sensory-based intervention. The authors provide a list of assessments that measure intervention outcomes that are consistent with the parents' and child's therapy goals.

A number of assessments mentioned in this article are available from Therapro.
