How To Use It Individual picture cards can be used on their own or as a complete picture scene set to target many language goals including:
Articulation:
To use the Spark Holiday Sequencing Cards to target articulation circle the objects in the picture scenes that have the target sound and have the child say the words or phrases. Alternatively have the child tell a story about the scenes.
Expressive Language:
The picture scenes provide many opportunities to label, describe and categorize objects depicted.
Target sentence structure by formulating a sentence for each picture card or give the child a word to use to formulate sentences. Work on increasing MLU by increasing the length and complexity of the sentences.
Use Spark Holiday Sequencing Cards to teach about narratives and main ideas. Facilitators can focus on story elements such as character, setting, plot, climax, and conflict or focus on identifying a title for a set of story cards and/or tell a main idea for each picture illustration.
The Spark Holiday Sequencing Cards provide many opportunities for pronoun practice. Simply circle the characters in the picture cards, the child works on using the pronouns correctly when formulating sentences about the characters.
The Spark Holiday Sequencing Cards can be used to target verb tenses by lining up cards in past, present, and future. Alternatively work on verb plurals and irregular plurals by describing the picture cards and formulating sentences about them.
Receptive Language:
Target sequencing by having the child set the cards up in the correct order using inferencing skills to infer the correct order of the cards.
Use the prompt cards to ask ‘wh’ questions ('who,' 'what,' 'when,' 'where,' 'why,' and 'how’)
Social Skills:
Use a marker to make thinking bubbles and/or speech bubbles to illustrate what the characters might be thinking, saying and feeling, great for working on emotions and feeling!
Carefully look at the pictures or scenes problem solving solutions to the conflicts depicted in the pictures.
