The Trauma Symptom Inventory™-2 (TSI™-2) is a self-report tool crafted to evaluate both acute and chronic posttraumatic symptoms in adults aged 18 to 88 years. This paper and pencil assessment, taking just 20 minutes to complete, stands as a vital instrument for professionals aiming to comprehensively explore and understand the psychological aftermath of traumatic events.
Purpose: Evaluates acute and chronic posttraumatic symptomatology
Format: Paper and pencil
Age Range: 18 years to 88 years
Time: 20 minutes
Key Features:
Broadband Measurement: The TSI-2 is a comprehensive measure designed to assess posttraumatic stress and other psychological consequences stemming from traumatic experiences including the effects of sexual and physical assault, intimate partner violence, combat, torture, motor vehicle accidents, mass casualty events, medical trauma, traumatic losses, and childhood abuse or neglect.
Updates: Three scales (Insecure Attachment, Somatic Preoccupations, and Suicidality) and several subscales, as well as four summary factors (Self-Disturbance, Posttraumatic Stress, Externalization, and Somatization), are new or have been significantly reconfigured providing deeper insights into clients' experiences.
Addressing Malingering: The instrument now assesses clients’ tendencies to deny, over endorse unusual symptoms, or respond randomly, offering a more robust evaluation.
Available in Spanish: The TSI-2 is now available in Spanish, with translated Reusable Item Booklets and Hand-Scorable Answer Sheets, although norms are based on English-speaking populations.
Technical information:
The validation sample consisted of five nonoverlapping clinical groups: combat veterans, individuals with borderline personality disorder, sexual abuse victims, victims of domestic violence, and incarcerated women. A sample of subjects simulating PTSD was used to test malingering.
Standardization: A sample (N = 678) closely mirroring U.S. Census statistics ensures the instrument's applicability across diverse populations.
Test Structure:
Wide Range Assessment: A 136-item carbonless form delves into potentially complex symptomatology, covering PTSD, dissociation, somatization, insecure attachment styles, impaired self-capacities, and dysfunctional behaviors.
Identification of Severe Disturbance: Eight critical items are integrated to flag issues indicative of severe psychological disturbance or potential danger to the respondent or others.
TSI-2 Validity Scales: Contain new items, especially the Atypical Response (ATR) scale, which was redesigned to assess over-reporting and to better evaluate potential feigning of PTSD. In all, 87 items (i.e., 64%) are new or have been rewritten to some degree.
Alternate Version: The TSI-2-A is a 126-item alternate version that excludes sexual symptom items.
