An Introduction to Yoga and Mindfulness in the Classroom: Tools to Improve Self-Regulation, Learning and Classroom Climate
Overview: Increasing numbers of students lack the skills of self-regulation, impulse control and focus negatively affecting their behavior, ability to learn and overall well-being. These critical life skills, essential to success at home, in school and throughout life, can be learned when taught in a developmentally appropriate, engaging way. In this workshop, you will learn how yoga and mindfulness techniques, specifically designed for the time and space crunched classroom, are a convenient, engaging and effective way to promote these skills while cultivating a positive, peaceful productive classroom climate.
Learning Objectives: Participants will:
Define the mind-body connection and how it affects learning and behavior;
Define the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional benefits of yoga and mindfulness-based interventions for children in schools supported by research;
Identify opportunities for taking yoga breaks during the school day;
Learn simple activities specially designed for their suitability for the typical classroom space and schedule, which can be simply and sustainably implemented in a variety of educational contexts as well at home;
Access additional tools and resources to ensure continued progress.
